Ne-Yo Interesting Facts

Ne-Yo’s single “So Sick” is a true story (song) about him and his ex-girlfriend.

Ne-Yo’s adopted name is a reference to Neo, the main character in The Matrix.

Ne-Yo Biography

Born on October 18, 1982, in Camden, Arkansas, Shaffer Chimere Smith was raised by his mother, who decided to move to Las Vegas with Shaffer because she felt that there would be more job opportunities there. And she was right.

Ne-Yo works with Jamie Foxx

Shaffer discovered his passion for singing early on in his life, writing his first song about mustard when he was only 5 years old. And growing up listening to the likes of Diane Warren, Prince, Marvin Gaye, The Rat Pack, and Stevie Wonder, there was no doubt that he wanted to sing to the world.

By the time he was barely in his teens, Ne-Yo began co-writing songs with already famous singers Mary J. Blige, Marques Houston, Nivea, Tyrese Gibson, Jamie Foxx, Faith Evans, and Christina Milian.

But it was the song he wrote for Mario, entitled “Let Me Love You,” that got so much airplay and made Ne-Yo feel as though he had finally arrived as a songwriter.

Content to stay in the background, making other singers look good, it wasn’t until a chance meeting with L.A. Reid of Def Jam Records that Ne-Yo finally got his opportunity to make a name for himself.

Ne-Yo releases Stay

Ne-Yo’s first release, “Stay” (featuring Peedi Crack) did well on the hip-hop charts, but failed to make any ground on Billboard’s Hot 100. The video, which featured beautiful choreographer Taneisha Scott, however, did get some serious airplay on music television.

It was his second single release, however, that thrust Ne-Yo into the Billboard stratosphere and turned him into a household name.

Ne-Yo becomes So Sick

“So Sick,” a song that Ne-Yo put together when he was all of 18, became a North American hit, topping both of Billboard’s Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts.

When the album, In My Own Words, was finally released during the last week of February in 2006, it went straight to No. 1, selling 301,000 copies.

Ne-Yo worked on a single for the soundtrack of the 2007 movie Steppin’ Up: Save The Last Dance 2, in which he also made an appearance alongside Izabella Miko and Columbus Short.

Ne-Yo tours with Chris Brown

Ne-Yo has his own record company called Compound Entertainment, after finishing up his Up Close & Personal Tour with Chris Brown, Ne-Yo started his own clothing label.

In 2007, Ne-Yo released Because of You, which was certified platinum, and was nominated for 5 Grammy Awards at the 2008 American Music Awards.

Shirtless Celeb Of The Day - Eric Dane

When McSteamy first appeared on Grey's Anatomy, I have to admit, Dane Cook's virtual nude scene had me a little hot and bothered. And while my desire for him has cooled somewhat, after seeing how personable he was on Oprah recently, I am back in lust with him once again.

Tips To Stop Snoring

By Tara Fraser

It’s annoying, it’s loud, and it leaves its listeners without a good night’s sleep. It’s snoring, and whether it’s you who has the affliction or you sleep next to someone who can make the drapes moving with their inhaling and exhaling, it’s time to do something about it.

Snoring may result from sleep apnea (cessation of breathing during sleep), but more often than not, it results from habits and behaviors that, if changed, may stop the noise for good.

If you’re the one who gets the complaints about your snoring, then the following tips will help you to stop snoring. If it’s your man who has the problem, then it’s up to you to make sure that he learns what he needs to do if he wants to keep you in his bed.

Stop snoring tips #1
Lose weight

It sucks to hear it, but people who are overweight tend to snore more so than those who are at a healthy weight. And don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to be a cow to snore; being 30% over your ideal body weight (it’s 20% for men) may result in snoring.

Of course, you don’t necessarily have to be overweight to be a snorer, but if you are a snorer and overweight, dropping the pounds via exercise and healthy eating will curb it.

And you don’t even have to be fat to snore; if you’re not active in your daily life, there’s a very good chance that you will be a snorer, so get out there and try to walk for at least an hour a day.

Stop snoring tips #2
Don’t drink alcohol

If you habitually have a glass of wine with dinner, that may increase your chances of snoring at night. When you drink, it relaxes the tongue and throat muscles, resulting in partially blocked air movement as you breathe, which leads to snoring.

If you already snore, this will make the situation worse and if you don’t usually snore, drinking can contribute to this new sleep behavior. So do your best to avoid the devil’s soup and if you do end up drinking, drink lots of water before you hit the sack.

Stop snoring tips #3
Quit smoking

There’s a good chance that, if you’re a smoker, you’ll likely be a snorer as well. Why? Well, because of the effects cigarette smoking has on the nasal passages and sinuses.

If you quit smoking, all your problems with snoring (among other things) would resolve themselves, but that’s likely asking a lot of you. If you’re not up for quitting this very minute, then at least give yourself a cut off time each evening – say four hours before you go to bed.

And if you don’t smoke, you’d do best to avoid exposing yourself to secondhand smoke; it has the same detrimental effect when it comes to sleepy time.

It may not curb your snoring entirely, but it will help.

Stop snoring tips #4
Sleep on your side

If you’re a heavy snorer, there’s a good chance that, no matter what position you end up sleeping in, you’ll continue to snore. But if you are a moderate snorer, then sleeping on your side could help eliminate those nasty sounds you keep making.

Moderate snorers tend to snore when they sleep on their backs. If you habitually sleep on your back, you could opt to sew a ball onto the back of your nightwear in order to avoid doing so (sounds comfortable, I know).

Stop snoring tips #5
Avoid pillows

Some people tend to sleep on a bunch of pillows, but anything that elevates your head and neck, and throws off the natural line of your spine, tends to make you snore.

If you absolutely cannot avoid using pillows when you sleep, invest in a Tempur-Pedic pillow; this pillow allows you the use of a pillow but keeps your body aligned correctly.

Stop snoring tips #6
Deal with allergies

For some women (and men), snoring only occurs when allergy season rolls around. And because you can’t eliminate your allergy, you will have to attack your snoring from another angle.

When you notice your hay fever acting up, take a nasal decongestant (but consult your physician if you’re already taking a prescribed medication). This will help clear your air passages and limit the snoring.

Stop snoring today

Snoring is not usually harmful, but there’s no doubt that if you have to endure the sounds night after night, you’d want to do something about it, and smothering someone with a pillow is still not legal in most states.

And if you’re the culprit behind the noise at night, I’m pretty sure you’d want to do something about it because snoring is right up there with farting and burping - it just doesn’t sound right on a woman.

Should your efforts to curb your snoring not work, consult your physician to discuss medical solutions.

Belly Dancing

By Vanita Gautum

Most gyms across North America offer aerobics classes called belly dancing or baladi, and if you haven’t heard of or tried them yet, you will fall completely in love once you do.

Belly dancing focuses mainly on the mid-section of a woman’s body, but includes elements of arm and upper body movements that will make you feel like you had a good run once you’re finished.

You will sweat, you will laugh, but above all, you will have a good time enjoying a belly dancing classes filled with women from all walks of life and different shapes and sizes.

Origin of belly dancing

Belly dancing, called Raqs Sharqi in Arabic and Oryantal Dansi in Persian, is believed to have originated in the Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa, and dates back as far as the 4th century B.C.

What you need for belly dancing

Although typical belly dancing requires a full frock including scarves to tie around your hips, a veil and an outfit, you do not need to have any of these things for an effective workout.

Some classes offer a box of scarves with sequins, but most don’t. You can invest in it yourself or opt to learn the moves without seeing the full effect of what you look like doing it.

A typical belly dancing class

Belly dancing classes start out with a warm up to heat up the muscles. The warm up consists of performing each move for the class individually.

Don’t worry about not being flexible or having the ability to isolate certain muscles in your body. Slowly but surely, you will learn and adapt the moves to your body, and perhaps even tighten your core while doing it.

Common belly dancing moves

Belly dancing is not easy by any means, but it is a lot of fun and will help you get to know your body much better, as well teach you how to isolate and control certain muscles and joints.

Some common belly dancing moves include:

Belly dancing moves #1
Hand & arm movements

You will feel the burn in your shoulders and increase flexibility in your wrists as you sway your arms up and down by your side and in front of you.

Belly dancing moves #2
Shimmy

Just about every woman enjoys this maneuver, which consists of keeping your entire body still except your shoulders. As you alternate them back and forth at a rapid pace, your breasts will shake as a result. Wear a good bra, the last thing you want is for your breasts to be swinging around painfully.

Belly dancing moves #3
Hip articulations

You will learn how to isolate your hips and move them one at a time. You will be shown how to move them up and down, and from side to side. This is incredibly difficult to learn, but you probably won’t be discouraged because most of the class will have the same issue.

Belly dancing moves #4
Traveling steps

Once you learn how to isolate certain body parts, the next step is learning how to continue these body specific moves while walking backwards and forwards. It’s quite trying to learn but you will laugh and have a good time in the process.

Belly dancing moves #5
Rib cage movement

There are 3 rib moves, or undulations, that you will learn: the rib cage slide, in which your rib cage protrudes from the top and is brought in by making a wave with your back; the rib cage circle, in which you stick out your ribs out as far as they can go toward each of the four corners of the room, eventually working it into a circular motion; and the rib cage figure eight, in which you attempt to draw the number “8” with your ribcage.

Belly dancing moves #6
Abdominal moves

Ah the belly, the heart of the dance. Learning how to control your stomach muscles and make your stomach protrude in a wave is quite difficult, but the beauty of this move is that it’s preferable to have a bit of a tummy than not. And we like that.

Belly dancing moves #7
Neck slide

Easy for some, more difficult for others, the neck slide will have you moving your neck from one shoulder to the other all the while hold your hands above your head, palms facing out. Think “Walk Like An Egyptian.”

Start belly dancing

Belly dancing is a fun and unique way to learn how to take better control of your body, increase flexibility and have a great time doing it all.

As the weeks go by and you continue to get better and better at it, before you know it, you’ll be showing a certain someone all the fantastic moves you’ve learned - dressed to the nines.
