American Idol 7 Recap - April 2, 2008

American Idol 7 brought the Top 9 down to the Top 8, and it wasn't an easy ride getting there.

First, the group sang Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" and then there was a recap of the evening before's performances.

Then 3 were called out to see who would be in the bottom 3:

Michael Johns - You are safe
David Archuleta - You are safe
Carly Smithson - You are safe

Then, Ryan Seacrest took some live calls, which really weren't all that interesting. I guess this is their way of trying to make the live show more interactive.

Then, a group called the Clark Brothers performed "This Little Light of Mine" and all I could say was WTF?!?!?

Then, 3 more contestants were called out:

David Cook - You are safe
Ramiele Malubay - You are in the bottom 3
Kristy Lee Cook - You are in the bottom 3

After the millionth commercial break, we returned to a recap of past Idol contestants (not winners) who went country, and Bo Bice, who went rock and roll.

The last 3 were then called out:

Syesha Mercado - You are safe
Brooke White - You are in the bottom 3
Jason Castro - You are safe

After yet another commercial break, this time there was a Ford ad where the Top 9 sang Run DMC's "Tricky", we returned to hear more about Idol Gives Back, which airs April 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

Dolly Parton, in all her plastic surgery glory, performed a song called "Jesus & Gravity," but it's obvious by her breasts that she's doing everything she can to keep gravity from winning.

Finally, we got to hear who was leaving American Idol - RAMIELE MALUBAY was kicked off the show and the girl really lost it, complete with boogers and the lack of breath that goes with bawling.

See you next week.

How To Become A Movie Extra

By Joanne Redder

You are a star - at least potentially, and you want to let the world know it via the big screen. Of course, you have no formal acting training nor do you have an agent, but you just know that the camera lens is going to love you and that this is your destiny.

That’s great, congratulations! Unfortunately, chances are that you’re going to have to start small and get a feel for how movies work from behind-the-scenes before you become the next Scarlett Johansson.

But how can you get started as a movie extra? Well, I’m glad you asked, otherwise, this article would have ended here.

What does a movie extra do?

More often than not, a movie extra doesn’t do much besides stand in place or walk past the lens during filming. There are no lines to be said and no extraordinary behaviors needed.

Sometimes, for big-crowd scenes, you may be asked to yell or run, or dress up in certain garb, but chances are that none of your friends will spot you when all is said and done.

How much do movie extras get paid?

How much money you can make as a movie extra all depends on the employer, whether or not you’re in a union, and whether or not the film is a non-union one.

If you’re not part of the actor’s union, pay varies from $7 an hour to more than $50 a day.

If you are part of the union and it’s a union film, then the employer must abide by the SAG (Screen Actor’s Guild) agreement. If you would like more information on how to join SAG, head to SAG.org and check out the information provided on Background Actors (movie extras).

How can you find movie extra work?

It’s not tough to find movie extra jobs, but it may be somewhat tough to land them. There are a few websites that list movie extra jobs in specific areas, although most that are listed take place in, you guessed it, Hollywood.

Some online venues you can check out include:

• EntertainmentCareers.net
• CraigsList.org (check the tv / film / video section in your area)
• BackStage.com

Of course, a “move extra casting calls” search on Google wouldn’t hurt either. With a touch of creativity, you’re bound to find out where and when movie extras are needed and you can head to the location and get your fame on.

You can always register with a casting call company in person, for which you shouldn’t pay more than $25. And finally, you can register online at websites like MovieX.com.

What awaits movie extras on set?

To prove that you know what you’re doing, once you get accepted as a movie extra, there are some things you should ask.

First, find out if you need to wear anything special for the scene. Next, if the movie is set in a specific time period, study up on it via the Internet. Even though you don’t have a speaking role, it’s always good to know what’s going on when the director yells “Action.”

Sometimes, your workday will be 12 hours long, but worry not because there will be plenty of catered food on the set. Of course, you probably won’t be in the same line as or eating alongside the stars of the film, but nevertheless, you will be fed breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

You will likely spend a lot of time doing nothing, so it’s a good idea to bring a book or magazines to keep yourself entertained.

Although it’s not forbidden for you to walk around the set, remember that, even if you’re the most beautiful woman in the world, it is possible to annoy those who are trying to do their jobs, so do your best to stay out of people’s way and avoid asking a million questions.

Movie extra set etiquette

As an employee of the set, it is in your best interest to make sure that you and those around you have a pleasant experience, and in order to make that happen, keep these tips in mind.

Movie extra etiquette tip #1
Don’t harass the stars

If Clive Owen and Rachel McAdams are the stars of the show, feel free to tell them that you enjoy watching them or that you admire them, but do not harass them or beg them to help you break into the industry.

Movie extra etiquette tip #2
Don’t gorge on food

While the food is there for your eating pleasure, there are plenty of mouths that have to be fed, so don’t gorge on everything until you can’t breathe. Eat until you’re full and leave some food for others.

Movie extra etiquette tip #3
Don’t bring a camera

As tempting as it may be, bringing any mechanism that captures images (including a cell phone) and taking pictures can get you thrown off the set and leave you out of a job, so resist the temptation.

Movie extra etiquette tip #4
Close all of your gadgets

All your electronic items, including your cell phone, your iPod, your handheld, and anything else that might disrupt taping, must be turned off. Remember that you’re an extra and a slip-up as minor as this can get you fired.

Movie extra etiquette tip #5
Don’t look into the camera
When you’re finally called to the set, do not look into the camera unless you are directed to do so. Not only will this confirm that you’re an amateur, but you’ll probably get cut out of the film altogether.

Movie extra etiquette tip #6
Don’t break character

Even if you think that the camera’s off of you and that you can relax, don’t. You should stay in character up until the moment you hear the director yell out “Cut.”

Movie extra fame

The minute you say a word on film, you become an “actor,” and that should be your mission, unless, of course, you’re more the silent type and enjoy the movie extra experience.

The pay isn’t great and the time on set may not even be all that fun, but the experience is well worth it, no doubt. Action!

American Idol 7 Recap - April 1, 2008

American Idol 7's Top 9 were give the task of Dolly Parton night on April 1, 2008 and I have to say, I thought it was going to be much worse than it actually turned out. And for the record, I think this was the first time that Paula Abdul was actually coherent. Freaky.

So here it goes:

Brooke White
Sang: Joleen

She was sitting on a chair strumming a guitar and I'm not sure, but it looked like she had a serious hunch back. But I digress. I was bored to tears with her performance and I just hate the way she reacts when the judges give her their criticism.

David Cook
Sang: Little Sparrow

Before he sang his song, David had a little sitdown with Beetlejuice Ryan Seacrest and explained how he took his previous arrangements from other bands but this time... this time it would be his own. And man did this boy blow me away. It was great. By the way, love the much needed haircut.

Ramiele Malubay
Sang: Do I Ever Cross Your Mind

First off, the music drowned her out completely; second, I was so unimpressed. I can't wait until she goes away. She's cute, but cute don't cut it 'round here.

Jason Castro
Sang: Travelin' Through

Before he belted out his tune, Ryan spoke about all the fan mail that Jason received and even read one aloud. Sweet. Anyhow, it was a cute performance at best, but I'm guessing the ladies will keep him in the game.

Carly Smithson
Sang: Here You Come Again

She is fantastic, I have to say. This girl could sing and she proved it once again. Unfortunately, Simon Cowell was right when he said, "Talk to whoever's dressing you. You don't look like a star." So true, she really looked like she was going out to some dive bar.

David Archuleta
Sang: Smokey Mountain Memories

Ugh! I really can't stand this troll doll and it's getting worse and worse each week. But I did love how they panned over to his dad, who is being accused of bullying the other contestants. Loser.

Kristy Lee Cook
Sang: Coat of Many Colors

I almost fell asleep 3 times during this minute and a half. This girl is hot but she dresses like the Amish (shout out to my Amish beauties) and she's just as exciting. Anyway, Simon told her she sucked once again and she retorted with "Thanks Simon, I love you." I'm guessing she really did blow him out of his socks like she said she would.

Syesha Mercado
Sang: I Will Always Love You

I saw this song choice coming a mile away, and I have to say that she wasn't bad at all. She's no Whitney Houston, but she does remind of the woman who costarred as her sister in The Bodyguard.

Michael Johns
Sang: It's All Wrong But It's Alright

Oh my God, where do I start? This man sang and my underwear magically came off. HIs bluesy version of the song melted me away and gave me the chills big-times. He was absolutely phenomenal.

So my prediction for the bottom 3 is:

Carly Smithson
Kristy Lee Cook
Ramiele Malubay

Let's see if I nailed it... I'll let you know tomorrow.

Shirtless Celeb Of The Day - Jack Nicholson

I don't know about you, but Jack Nicholson is still smoking hot, even in his 70s. I mean, the cellulite around his stomach, that big pot belly and sporadic hair on his head just makes me want to get into spread eagle position.

And watching him as he downs that submarine and then lights up a cigarette. Woo, is it getting hot in here?!?

There's no one else I'd rather see on this 1st day of April. Spring has definitely sprung.

Entertainment News - April 1, 2008

Remember Borat? Well, Sacha Baron Cohen is bringing another one of his famous characters to the big screen. This time it's Bruno, a very openly gay fashion journalist. Anyway, he ended up interviewing Ben Affleck, who had no idea that it was all a gag. Needless to say, this is all going to end up in the final cut.

Check out what Bruno is like, here he is at a Missy Elliott audition:

A bunch of dummies reported that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got married over the weekend. It was complete bull. (CelebNewsWire)

Tom Cruise knows that his upcoming movie Valkyrie is going to bomb because, well, he gots a case of the crazies. (Jossip)

Sounds like the Beverly Hills, 90210 remake is going to leave us shaking our heads in disbelief. You now need reservations to get into the Peach Pit. Wha?!? (dListed)

Jessica Simpson checked into the hospital with a "kidney infection." Look for thicker lips when she leaves. (IDLYITW)

Madonna claims she was bullied in high school because she tried to be different by not shaving her legs or armpits. Yeah, high school kids can really appreciate that. (ICYDK)

Rihanna insists that she and Chris Brown are just friends... who happen to tongue each other in public. (I'm Not Obsessed)

Cameron Diaz is happy to be single and wants to stay that way. (Gone Hollywood)
