tuesday remix

i am going to start off by admitting that this is not my favorite remix. i think each outfit is fine. there is nothing really bad about any of them. but nothing really stands out to me or screams, "awesome styling, nora"! and while i don't love putting out a mediocre remix, i do have a lame excuse. these photos took me forever! it was my first outdoor shoot (and i plan on doing all of my photos outside for the rest of the spring/summer/fall, weather permitting). and it was just me and my trusty tripod in my backyard. i took all the photos while my daughter took her afternoon nap and i had to keep running back inside (very quietly) to change outfits and then run (tip toe) back outside to take the photos. it was cloudy and had just stopped raining and i was in fear it would start again. so every time i went inside i had to lug my camera and tripod back in, too. anyway, this is why i decided to use these photos instead of attempt a whole new remix and photo shoot. maybe i am just being hard on myself...

it was fun, however, to take the photos outside (finally!). beside the fact i was nervous that a neighbor would come out and see me and wonder what the heck the crazy lady next door was doing. and one of my neighbors did drive through the alley and sort of slow down when they saw me. i just played it off like i was taking some nature shots! ha! fooled them! (actually they probably now just think i am crazy)...

this week's item is a long black, racerback vest type piece. it is the xhilaration brand from target, but i got it out of megan's closet (big surprise, i know!). i never wear it, but i really like it and think it could be quite versatile. i wanted to see if i could make it work for the spring but, as stated above, i am not sure if i did! so please, let me know what you think!

inspiration monday: tulips

happy monday, all! i hope everyone enjoyed their weekends...and that you were able to spend the weekends with your kids and/or you moms! i got to do both!! sunday fun day with modelo mimosas (thanks for the idea cayla!) and my not-so-secret recipe margaritas! there are lots of wonderful moms in my family and to be able to spend time with them on mother's day is wonderful!!

on to today's inspiration. the ever-effortlessly casual nicole richie. she has such a great glam/boho/chic look....i would love to raid her closets! here is today's look:

a perfect bring-your-kid-to-the-park look. i love the florals and the denim mixed together...i decided to do a similar but also very different look. i don't own a blue denim jacket. i am not sure why (note to self next time i am thrifting!) but i do have a white one, so i went with a brighter take on nicole's look.

1. what is your go-to pair of shoes?

i don't know that i have a go-to pair of shoes. i have a few favorites, i have some that are more comfortable than others, and i have a few that will go with just about any outfit, but i choose my shoes on a day-to-day basis, so i don't really think i have a go-to shoe. having said that, i have picked out my most worn shoes. here they are:

2. what goes into your shoe buying decisions?

cuteness and price. comfort isn't too much of an issue as i am used to wearing heels all the time. of course if a shoe is too tight, i won't buy it, but a high heel or pointy toe has never stopped me! i'm also a very frugal person, so as much as i want to buy a zillion pairs of jeffrey campbells, i won't. i will just look for a cheaper version of something similar. groceries trump shoes.
3. the majority of the shoes in your closet are what color?

hmmmm....i have no idea. i like to buy unique and colorful shoes. i do own a lot of black and tan shoes, but i really prefer florals, patterns and color.
4. when it comes to designer shoes what are your favorite brands and why?

jeffrey campbell, hands down. i love a huge, thick, chunky platform heel. i love his patterns and textures and styling. i don't think he makes a shoe that i don't love.

5. if price wasn’t an issue, you’d own which shoe?

curious birds: online shopping

i love shopping. i love physically going to a brick and mortar store and pawing through racks and racks of clothing, shoes and accessories. i will walk through a store, pick out a good 20 things, try them on...and then i will walk through the store a second time to make sure i didn't miss anything. but let's get real, i don't have that kind of time. sure, there are days when i pick my kids up from school, with a portable dinner in tow so that we can all go to the local thrift store (yes, i have taught my kids to love thrift stores, garage and rummage sales). but i like to go to most retail stores sans the kids. the blaring music and huge crowds of forever 21 just isn't conducive to bringing your kids. maybe some day...but then probably that day, i shouldn't be shopping at forever 21 anymore.

so when i can't get to a store, online shopping is key. cause ya know, i have to shop (my mom literally thinks i have an addiction)! which leads me to today's question: where is your favorite place to shop online?

i have a few favorites, but i'd have to say forever 21 is my go-to online shopping store. i know that i can get a full outfit, including jewelry and a purse, if i really need/want to. they typically have free shipping on orders over $50, and let's face it, you can get a ton of stuff for $50 there. i know what sizes i am there, and i have tried on enough of their clothes that i know (for the most part) what will look good on me and what won't. i have no idea how their online returns work because there is an actual forever 21 within a few miles of my house, so if by chance i don't like something, i usually just end up returning it to the store.

as for shoes, i love urban original. they have super cute and super cheap shoes. i typically don't buy leather, so i usually end up buying cheap shoes, which suits my pocket book just fine. i like urban original because you can shop by style, size, price range and color; with such options to choose from like "party shoes", "wedges" and "open-toe heels". again, they typically have free shipping over $50. their return policy doesn't look fabulous, as they charge a restocking fee on free shipping orders...but again, i have never actually had to return a pair!

those are my faves, but i would love to hear your thoughts. i am always looking for new affordable places to shop (or even unaffordable places to "window" shop) online. so where do you online shop? what do you typically like to buy online?
