tuesday remix: sister style

you know what is fun? getting a much needed and awesome new couch. you know what is not fun or easy? trying to move said couch into the house (and the old one out) with a fifteen month old running around and blocking your way at every turn. that happened last night. but the couch is now all moved in and ready for chillin'! it's a good thing, too. i needed something to sit on while i watched the finale of "the bachelorette". anyone else? thoughts? i might just be over that show...

okay. that is my story for the day. boring, i know. but i am tired from moving a couch. so let's talk about clothes. for today's remix, i chose a vintage skirt that i bought ages ago and have never worn. when i bought it i was really attracted to the fun floral pattern. and the fact that it is black and white, i figured i could pair it with a whole slew of things. alas, i have not. so i thought i would throw it in the remix ring and see if we could get a knockout outfit out of it...otherwise, into the donate pile she goes. let us know what you think!

inspiration monday: my evil twin

you thought the sketch comedy stylings of two birds were over, didn't you? too bad...you get to read yet one more dumb idea nora and i thought was hilarious. it all started with a stupid pimple...now here's where i get embarrassed. it was mine. and it wasn't on my face. ok, that makes it sound worse that it was....it was on my hip, and i'm still not convinced it was a pimple. i don't get body pimples...honest! anyways, enough of the embarrassing details. long story short, i asked nora what she thought it was, and she told me it was my parasitic twin. you know what i'm talking about, right? when people find tumors with hair and teeth in them...so weird. so, of course nora and i had to make a sketch about it. where my parasitic twin is also a fashion blogger, and every time you see a picture of me, you also see my parasitic twin, toes pointed in, hands on hips, wearing a top knot (all the while attached to my hip). at the end of each post, i have to say where i bought my clothes, and also what the twin is wearing. "parasitic twin's dress, c/o modcloth." because of course my parasitic twin would get free clothes from modcloth.

frugal feathers friday

hey all! how are you? i get a little paranoid sometimes and worry that people read things the wrong way. so for everyone who read my last post about pugs, macaroons and nail polish, i hope you weren't offended at all. i really wasn't trying to be mean, i just think it's cute that we all see and read certain trends on fashion blogs. i happen to notice a lot of those three things, so i wrote a little post. again, sorry if you thought it came off as snotty...not my intention at all. or maybe i'm just being paranoid.

to start off frugal feathers friday, i thought i'd share a few things in my house and in my wardbrobe that are thrifted.

i needed a place to put all of my rings, so i thrifted a wooden pineapple dish and an old oil can. luckily, between the two, i fit them all! cost, $5.

i am a sucker for wall collages. i have mentioned this before. it's somewhat of an addiction that i am aware of. after last night (when i did this wall), i will stop. i promise. every single piece on this wall (aside from my kid's art and the little orange bird) is thrifted. total cost: $17.

the whole outfit isn't thrifted...the main reason i am posting this pic is because i got these 7 for all mankind jeans for $5.99. not too shabby!

Brunette hairstyles 2011 seems to be a move away from hot white blondes to deep chestnut browns and auburn hair. Then these layers are subtly layered with different ranges of browns and golden highlights so the hair appears to be a palate of gorgeous shimmering colors. These colors are perfect for the 2011 season.
