♥ egg rolls for breakfast (i ate about five).

♥ when my daughter asked if she could use my lotion and i said, "no, it's just for people with wrinkles", she said, "but mama, you don't have wrinkles!"

♥ meeting a new neighbor at the block party last night and having her say, "i know those shoes...where's your tattoo?" and finding out that she reads our blog. (hi cheri!)

♥ finding a new menswear vendor for our sales. not only does he have impeccable taste, but he is also one of the nicest men you will every meet.

♥ learning how to make a heart symbol (alt 3 for anyone who is as computer (il)literate as i am).

last night chris and i had a super mellow night. the kids were at grandma and grandpa's (that happens a lot in the summer) so we went out to eat. i had the biggest, best bowl of vegetarian noodle soup with steamed tofu, and chris had a yummy mock duck stir fry. if you live in (or ever visit) the twin cities area, make it a point to go to jasmine deli. it is cheap, delicious and the service is great. then we headed over to the ice cream shop owned by jasmine deli and got a pistachio gelato. and then we leisurely drove around each lake in the chain of lakes near our house. it was a gorgeous night. driving around the lakes made me laugh because i always thought of a date consisting of merely driving was something old people do...i guess i'm on my way! nevertheless, it was a wonderful night. one of the top things that i love: date nights. here are a few other things that i love...

i had a "speed" moment yesterday. the movie, not the drug. ok, not really. ok, not at all. i was on a bus, and that's about as far as the comparisons go. i was on a bus riding home from work, pleasantly reading freakonomics (i know, i'm about seven years behind), when all of a sudden one of the windows pops out. the guy in the seat is frantically trying to pop it back in, all the while holding it as tight as he can so it doesn't go flying off the bus...and then we found out that if the bus driver dropped below 50 mph, the bus would explode. wait...that wasn't me...but really, this guy was freaking out. raising his hand to try to get the bus driver's attention. (probably not his best idea because a) the bus driver is not facing him, and b) there is a huge bus window in his other hand, and two hands probably would be best to keep said window from flying on to the freeway.) the drama ensues for about five more stops until i get to my stop. i walk up to the bus driver (who clearly has now heard this man yelling about the window. yes, he stopped using hand gestures and started using his best urgent keanu reaves voice. "dude, this window totally popped out!") and i say, "apparently a window popped out." and you know what he did? he rolled his eyes at me, said, "yeah i heard." and then told the guy to move to another seat. and scene. credits rolling.

love*birds 6.29.11: the stars and stripes edition

our dog is terrified of fireworks. so much so that we have to give him anti-anxiety pills every fourth of july. the problem is that fireworks aren't just on the fourth; kids are constantly setting off those ones that make the zing and the pop noise. you know what i'm talking about, right? like the sound of a cartoon bomb...immediately followed by some wacky animal with stars surrounding his head. or is that when he gets hit with a frying pan? i get my cartoon sounds confused! anyhow, back to desi (our dog). on such nights that these whipper snapper firecrakers (that's what i've decided to name them) are going off, we either have to give him pills, lock him in the basement where he can't hear anything, or cradle him like a newborn until his shaking subsides. but usually it doesn't. desi will jump on our bed and shake uncontrollably ~ chris and i call this the "quarter in the bed" syndrome.  that's the one not-so-good thing about the fourth of july. but there are oh so many good things. which is why we are dedicating this week's love*birds to all things patriotic!

i am sitting here right now with two overflowing laundry baskets in front of me, full of clothes that need folding. getting nice and wrinkly as we speak...and what am i doing about it? well, i am drinking a glass of wine and blogging about all of my laundry, of course. ugh. i just hate folding laundry. i don't know why. it is one of my least favorite chores. i don't mind actually doing the laundry. just folding it. and our little household of three sure makes a lot of dirty clothes. you wouldn't think adding one little tiny person to the family would add that much laundry. but, let me tell you, babies go through a lot of clothes. sometimes i have to change her outfit after every meal. she is a messy little eater. i remember when megan's kids were smaller, before i had mimi and was clueless about such things, i would go over to her house and she would be folding piles and piles of laundry. and i would sit there cooing over how cute the teeny little socks were and how adorable the tiny pants were. and megan would just roll her eyes at me and sigh and continue folding tiny pants and pairing baby-sized socks. i don't think she likes folding laundry, either. but enough talk about things we don't like. (seriously, nora, quit talking about your laundry). let's talk about the things we are loving this week!

megan here, responding to nora's laundry comments. i don't so much hate folding laundry as much as i hate putting it away. i actually like sitting in front of the tv (apparently watching cougartown) and folding laundry. but then of course there are days when it then stays on the basement couch. days, people, as in two to three to four days. that's a perk of having a lot of clothes. laundry can sit clean and folded for a week before i need to put it away! enough about laundry...have a great day, all!!
