First, how much time and money is available for hair maintenance and second, how do women keep their lovely locks looking great all the time. Any guy considering growing out their hair could benefit from the hair care and styling experiences of women with long hair.

new loves and old friends: coffee spoons

forget measuring life in coffee spoons, i think i could measure my life by my shopping sprees . 2001 was the year of the express v-neck t-shirt (i bought one in practically every color). then there was the year (or two) of target long and lean tanks (still own about a million of them – they are perfect for layering). black dress pants, check; short flowy skirts, check. when i like an item of clothing, i look for it in every color. seriously, i go a little crazy, it's a titch pathetic.

my newest craze is vintage tees. and not even vintage; as long as they are soft and the sleeve hits me in just the right spot, we're on. the fact that i can get them at thrift stores for under $1 doesn't hurt either. i have found a few that i love (see here), and surprisingly, i have told myself that i can stop shopping for them now. after all, i don't need 30 t-shirts, five will do!

i found this one at a garage sale last weekend. of course, it's a minnesota (zoo) tee, so i love it...because i love all things minnesota (another shopping obsession). i love tees paired with skirts. i love the casual, yet chic feel to it. to see awesome examples, check out kimi at all the fuss. she rocks vintage tees and skirts...love it! i have this skirt that i normally wear as a dress...but today i decided to fold it over a few times and wear it as a shorter skirt. how original huh? a skirt worn as a skirt! avant garde!

curious birds:summer reading

i love to read. my whole family does. my mom has a library of hundreds and hundreds ( i was going to say thousands, but my husband is always telling me that i exaggerate) of books and it just keeps growing. every time she visits a thrift store, garage sale, rummage sale or half price book store, her collection gets bigger. in fact, my sisters and i rarely need to buy a book or visit the library...if we are looking for something to read my mom has usually got it. it is not unusual for us to leave our parent's house after a family dinner with a big bag of leftovers and a big bag of books. and nothing says summer more than laying on the beach (or, in minnesota, on the dock or hammock at the cabin) and digging in to a great novel. 

my husband just finished The Hunger Games series and really enjoyed it. he really wants me to read them now and told me i could likely finish them each in a day or two. so, those are on my summer reading list.

 megan also just lent me The Blessings of the Animals, which she just finished and really enjoyed.

 so, i have a few books to get me through at least the first few days of summer! but i need more! more, i say! which is why my curious birds question to you today has absolutely nothing to do with fashion or beauty or any of that...i want to know what you are reading/have read/are hoping to read this summer. i will be taking all of your suggestions and searching my mom's stacks of books to make up the best summer reading list of all time!!! (no exaggeration, people. this is where it's at).

i scored these shoes this weekend while out thrifting with megan (i know! can you even believe we were out thrifting??? so surprising.). i saw them from afar and loved them immediately. lucky for me they just happened to be my size! they are such a great summer shoe. and, you guys, they are so flippin' comfy! bonus! i can tell you right now they will get worn a lot. they are such a fun, bright green, so i though maybe i should tone down the rest of my outfit. maybe some navy blue and white. nothing too flashy. then i thought again...and ended up throwing my favorite red vintage top. why not, right???

i can hardly believe it is june! we barely got a spring and now we're headed into summer. here is hoping, since winter lasted so long, that summer will make it's way into november! we can always hope. anyway, suddenly it is wednesday and we are somehow halfway through another week. how did that happen? long weekends always mess with my head. but they are also one of my favorite things. speaking of favorite things (wow. see what i did there? seamless transition.) here are some of the things we are loving this week...
